A memorable milestone has been recorded at the Over 70s Cricket World Cup, with Farooq Kirmani, captain of the Canada Over-70s cricket team, scoring the first century of the competition.

Kirmani produced a superb captain’s innings, bringing up the tournament’s first hundred in 125 minutes before finishing unbeaten on 136 not out. His knock helped power Canada to an impressive 274/4 from their 45 overs.

Batting with control and confidence, Kirmani built his innings steadily, forming key partnerships and accelerating when the opportunities came. His innings included 13 fours and 2 sixes, with his timing and placement allowing Canada to keep the scoreboard moving throughout the innings.

Reaching three figures is always a special moment, but to record the first century of the tournament makes the achievement even more significant. Kirmani’s effort has set an early benchmark for the competition and provided one of the standout performances of the event so far.

With the tournament continuing across Christchurch venues and teams eyeing places in the finals, Canada’s captain has ensured his innings will be remembered as one of the early highlights of this year’s Over 70s Cricket World Cup.
